Obtaining Foamed Glass-Ceramics from Diamond Concentration Tailings

The possibility of obtaining building foamed glass-ceramic using the diamond concentration tailings Lomonosov deposit in Arkhangelsk Region, Russia, is demonstrated here. effect tailings’ particle size distribution, feed temperature, addition a foaming agent, and content oxidizer on charge established. process conditions for materials are described. specifications with optimal composition (tailings 50 wt.%, glass waste SiC 0.5 Fe2O3 1 wt.%) at 1020–1050 °C were as follows: apparent density 0.23–0.51 g/cm3, compression strength 0.58–2.40 MPa, water absorption (by volume) 8.7–19.0%. Based combination measured properties when used dry conditions, obtained can be considered heat-insulating foam materials. thermal conductivity was 0.060–0.066 W/m·K.
